Skills-Based Practices

We conduct research and provide implementation guidance on skills-based workforce practices, including the development of skill taxonomies, skills-based hiring and selection strategies, competency-aligned job descriptions, and performance management frameworks. Our work helps organizations move beyond only degree-based requirements to build workforce systems grounded in demonstrable skills and competencies.

Job/Practice Analysis and Competency Modeling

We conduct research and Implementation related to the identification of skills and competencies that are needed for individual jobs, job families, and occupations; as well as those skills that transcend specific jobs (e.g., job-readiness skills, leadership). In addition, we develop competency frameworks and processes for linking skills and competencies to career pathways.

Assessment Development and Validation

We design and validate assessments that measure technical and durable skills using scientifically grounded methods. Assessment approaches include multiple-choice exams, situational judgment tests, structured interviews, and other competency-based measures. We also conduct validation and transportability studies for existing assessments to ensure they are valid, reliable, and legally defensible.

Occupational Licensing

We conduct research on occupational licensing systems and regulatory structures, including studies that examine the relationship between job requirements, licensing requirements, and public or patient safety. Our work also analyzes licensing board structures, regulatory processes, and barriers to entry in licensed professions to inform evidence-based policy and regulatory decision-making.
